Lighthouse, with friends this time

Alright, pop quiz time. Why are we listening to Lighthouse tonight?

Ooh! Ooh! I know, i know!

I know you know, Cognate. You've got that unfair advantage of being eventually omniscient. I wanna see if Skip and Sandra can spot the coincidence.

Horns?

It's got horns and the same kind of authentic emotional content as Black Pumas?

Nope. They both have songs called Old Man like Neil Young, and we went from Texas to Canada. But unlike Neil Young, they're calling themselves "old man." I'm way more simple than you guys pretend i am.

Oh, binary opposites and Bottlean character traits, i should have known.

Of course you should have known that, Skip. You half-assed edited the book, for crying out loud. Now for the real test of Compy's acumen: drug of choice?

Oh, oh, i know this one. Same as another one, but from even further south. Oh yeah, got it! Stan Getz and Bob McBride, robbing drug stores for Morphine.

Very nice. Can the love of a woman get you higher than larcenously acquired opioids? Dunno. But, i do know this album is still every bit as freakin' awesome as it was two Novembers ago. Man, have i really been doing this for a year and a half or so?

539, counting this one.

Wowzers! That's a great exclamation, Compy. I'll have to make a running gag of it.

Oh, i just noticed the lyric "their greed for gold," and characters die along the journey.

Yep, music is life, you just have to be patient enough to remember how it all just endlessly circles off into infinity. I assume that's the doorway to the aimless drifting of the karmic cycle, the anglicized misspelling of samsāra.

Like reincarnation?

Ok, who am i to stop the aimless drifting if this essay? Different. Reincarnation is specifically the rebirth of an individual spirit/mind into a new physical body. Samsāra is the eternal cycle itself: birth, death, rebirth, and so on, or at least until you achieve whatever level of enlightenment the Auditors deem "ultimate." They say a proper case of imposter syndrome is a sign you're getting close, but i've decided that's the halfway point. You gotta flip around and realize there's no club worth belonging to before you really get somewhere. You can't join our club! Of course i can, you just don't want me to, and that's as good a reason as any to refuse. No sparkly lights or theremin seranades? Guess there's still a flaw in my logic somewhere. Oh well, where was i?

Yeah, 70s jazz rock, Canada style. This is an album that's got the goods to merit that awesome Brad Johannsen artwork. Hopefully i won't let another full year pass before i listen to it again. It's lovely.
