Deltron 3030

The number of holes i dug today is ridiculously around a hundred. My whole body hurts. Rum and coke number two is gently fizzing, and my copy of Deltron 3030 is rotating. Glorious.

Once upon a time, Ice Cube turned to his cousin and queried "Del, what the hell is a Funkee Homosapien?"

Del probably had some crazy answer for him, but the real answer is that Del is THE funkee homosapien. As a kid he was super into computers and writing poetry, and when he heard Grandmaster Flash he said "that, that's the kind of poetry i want to write." He thinks rap is a legitimate art form, and he is prolific, to put it mildly. He formed this super group with Dan Tha Automator and Kid Koala. He wrote the entire concept album in less than 2 weeks. It's the story of a former mech warrior in the year 3030 who rap battles to defeat the corporate overlords who made rap illegal, but gets captured and has his memory erased.

"Conscious Hip-Hop" might not be a familiar subgenre to you. It's a positive artform focused on inspiring its audience to be aware of the world happening around them. This album is fantastic, its a sci-fi comic book in the form of a hip-hop album. 

Now, from time to time, i implore you to go listen to an album, and this is one album you should absolutely hear at least once. I think i can safely say that this is one of the greatest albums of all time. Even if you think you hate rap, you can't deny the following imperative: upgrade your gray matter, 'cause one day it may matter. Seriously, this is phenomenal. There's a set up for the movie Strange Brew. I made a Bob and Doug McKenzie joke once, making fun of K-tel, i think. Track 15 is called "The News (a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft Inc.). I'd call this a Golden Age style album. I'd also point out that Del has been doing this since the 80s, this is what i was talking about in my review of Massive Attack. Gangsta rap is one small segment of the art form. It's an important part obviously, but there's a much wider world of less commercially accessible amazingness. 

Seriously, go find Deltron 3030 on youtube or in person and love it as much as i do. It's so much fun. Cheers.
