The Lettermen - Let It Be Me
B: alright, crew. Most ridiculous thing we could listen to after taking off our Helmets?
S: the Mississippi abortion case.
B: oof, no. My position is already well documented. I can't do any more than i've already done.
C: the MLB lockout?
B: double oof. No intelligent conversation to be found on either side of that one. Hard pass.
E: we could all pick a record we think you'll hate and you pick your poison?
B: hmmmm. That has potential. Brain damage quotient is still astronomical, but at least i can educated guess in my own favor. Yeah, let's do it. On your marks, get set, scamper!
[The sounds of scampering with assorted comical banter and giggles]
S: ok, i think we're all ready. We just grabbed whatever we found, here's 5 choices.
B: whaddawe got? Barry Manilow? Not the worst. Anne Murray? Not great. The Statler Bothers? Might be hilarious, but very risky. Oliver Again? Tempting, but i didn't do Oliver the first time, so my standard joke won't make any sense. The Lettermen? 60s pop trio, actual hit pop songs choir style, yeah this won't hurt much at all. Go ahead and spin it.
Oh yeah. This is delightful. Granted, this is the background soundtrack to washing a sink full of dishes and occasionally petting the cat on the windowsill, but it goes down real smooth. Strong enough for a man, but Ph balanced for a woman. I could actually cheat and hear the entire record as the rearrangements of the Punk arrangements of all of these songs, but i won't. This is lovely. I don't think anyone could possibly argue that this is terrible, or annoying, or that these 3 guys are not great singers. We can just not walk down that hallway clearly labeled "Bourgeois Mythologies." Even if we did i'd just end up asking who's being exploited here? Obviously, the law favors the lawmaker, but that doesn't effect the end result in any way i can hear. My earballs are good, but this is a retitled re-issue. Imppssible to argue that effort wasn't being made in either direction. Nope, delightful. I win.
C: well, that was underwhelming.
B: for you, maybe. I just narrowly avoided listening to a Statler Bros album. Don't let my cool, composed demeanor fool you, i'm high as a kite on a windy day right now.
