Epilogue

Epilogue

C: so what does it all mean, Bottle?

B: it don't mean a thing. The amount of coincidence in that whole run was just that, coincidence. It's not foreshadowing, there's no ultimate answer to life the universe and everything no matter how funny the answer 42 is. It's funny because it's absurd. I might even go check out David Duchovny's 2nd album.

C: but you hated the first one.

B: who said that? Where did i say i hate it? I had a criticism, that criticism was that the album structure was crap. It didn't mean what it intended to mean, it meant the opposite for me. As music though it was lovely, and as an Alt-Rock album a decade after Alt-Rock was the thing, it's as good as any other. It's a believable album from an ironically cookie cutter world of individuality.

What was the actual theme? I didn't spell it out (even though i'm going to now), but it should be pretty obvious. Every single one of those 10 albums wrestled with the idea of Escape. It's all in some way self-preservation through escapism. You could go meta and point out that's exactly what i'm doing reviewing them.

C: ok, i'll play along. Isn't that just what you're doing, Bottle?

B: astute observation, old chum. It's mine though. I choose it, i enjoy it, it's the reward for slogging through the day shift. The fact that i think that structure is crap notwithstanding, it's a little pocket of fun in an otherwise uncomfortable pair of poorly constructed trousers. Wouldn't we all prefer to change pants as often as practical?

C: [forehead smack] Levis, plural.

B: see? Fun.

C: so what about your album? It seems like you're leading up to actually doing it.

B: maybe. I thought it might be fun to make that the official 1,000. Anything could happen over the course of the next 89 official essays, though. Each and every one is, as you might suspect, a fragile moment.
