Automata II - Part 2 of part 2 of part 1 of the analysis of Automata


Some preliminary points: 

1) i was hoping this would be the case, and it is: the whole thing is out of order. Thank goodness i've built my entire writing style around that theme. You're welcome. 

2) we have some proper nouns, and the band's minimalist user manual to work from. There is a protagonist. There is a corporation. Dreams are involved. Various songs share various words. I'm not saying it can't be bad, but i am saying there's every possible chance it will be good. 

3) these two albums are an actual puzzle for us to figure out. We get to use spreadsheets, draw arrow diagrams, type random things into the googlemafetchbox, it's like a structuralist scavenger hunt made of cardboard and plumbing pipes. 

4) you can cheat and buy Tommy's actual book about these albums for $25 on sheet happens dot com. You can also buy my book of album reviews for the same price without the extra cost of shipping. Who's more interesting? Tommy, obviously, but that's not the point. 

Is North Carolina a mecca for death metal? Houston, sure. Scandanavia, obviously. Brazil, why not? All i know about NC is Petey Pablo, shirt helicopters, and raising up. Yes, of course, it's north of South Carolina, but this is a Deltron 3030 type anti corporation type album.  I promised you pie charts and infographics, but Sandra's not fully cooperating, so while i go find a box of crayons to draw them myself, why don't you guys and gals work on getting some tangible mental grasp on what the corporation called Voice of Tresspass is doing, what the hell "the grid" actually is, and whether having yellow eyes is a good or bad thing. The photo doesn't do it justice, the record is the most delectable shade of raspberry syrup.

Welcome to my blog, and my record collection.

This is a blog about my love of listening to albums. It started off as a nightly perusal of my dad's record collection (which sadly became mine) on my personal facebook page. Eyrth - Meridian

A terrible sadness accompanies the release of Meridian by Latvian Ambient Metal band EYRTH. Since their debut Fracture in early 2019 the band, and indeed the whole world has suffered a global pandemic, intense ideo-political turmoil, the death of friend and bandmate Igor Golovin, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.  The war in Ukraine still wages on, even though we in the Western hemisphere seem to have largely forgotten. These are turbulent times, and Alex and Andrey are rightfully entering an extended break. We may not see or hear new music from them for a while, if ever, and that is completely understandable. The music they've created, however, is truly breathtaking. Self-described as "Uranium wreckage in audio," the music of Eyrth is every bit as hauntingly beautiful as it is brutally crushing. Live - Secret Samadhi

Speaking of smorgasbords and ladies' bathrooms, here's Live's Secret Samadhi. The title at least implies that the album is a meditation on reality, but it's Ed Kowalczyk so i have to keep a dictionary close because i don't have a clue who/what he's referring to half the time. Sure i know that Lakini is the goddess of the Manipura (solar plexus/navel) Chakra, but what does washing her feet with water from the women's bathroom toilet actually mean? Jesco White is a mildly famous folk dancer/entertainer, but he's not dead so how could you lay flowers at his grave? "The followers of Aldous are spinning with their mescaline," Aldous Huxley obviously, but what does that have to do with the secondary thematic concept of intellectual propery? I can't even begin to dissect the convoluted metaphors of Ghost, and we're not even halfway through the album.
