I don't have to write a novel tonight because it's the first two Santana albums: Santana and Abraxas. Screaming guitars, organ solos, a full percussion ensemble, and unobtrusive vocals. Their goal was to be a jam band who played actual well liked songs, and they more than succeeded. Every track could fill a whole side as far as i'm concerned. You can do as good as Santana, but you can't do any better.
Reviewers of the time thought this was vapid fast-as-hell garbage, but they hadn't heard even the simplest of modern day sandal-core (180bpm is practically Largo at this point), so we can just laugh and ignore them.
