2 - A Celtic Christmas
BULRYOR
I got nothing, that's just a nonsense license plate. What i do have is A Celtic Christmas. Because when i think celtic christmas music, i always turn to a random independent label based in Brentwood, Tennessee. Obviously my first inclination is to question the superlative adjectives used in the naming of the musicians involved, but the fact that the googlemaphone actually delivers their respective teaching studios, discographies, bios, etc. is pretty strong evidence that they are not in fact a bunch of random weirdos and do have the expertise they rightfully claim. It also sadly means this album will be perfectly enjoyable and i won't be able to make fun of it at all. The one glimmer of hope is the phrase "performed in Lilting Celtic Style" like they're winging it, but i have my doubts. Either way, down the hatch it goes.
Yep, Balderose can play the bagpipes. The janitor of my first elementary school was a Piper. I like bagpipes. Oh thank goodness, they're just gonna string tunes together without any transition at all, and McCullough is gonna portamento the living snot out of everything.
You know i was joking earlier, right? Ernie Hawkins is pretty well renowned and it actually sounds like he's just playing guitar on this album. There's fret buzz and he's definitely using a noisy brass slide, and other mechanical noises. I'm actually starting to enjoy this quite a lot. You might have a raging migraine by the 10 minute mark, but i'm in heaven. If you gave me a record store, i'd crank this up in August just to drive out the riffraff.
So to recap, terrible album of completely random and disorganized Christmas Carols played on what most people would consider the most annoying musical instruments ever created this side of a hurdy gurdy, and i love it. Skip's right eye is twitching like he's got metal shards in it as we speak. Maybe we'll see if i can slip it past the Auditors later this evening 'cause i'm not finding it on youtube, but everyone should have the chance to enjoy the level of mirth i'm enjoying right now. I like it a lot...
... and now you can too:
