The Interruptors - Live in Tokyo

Holy smokes, i was just trying to check out a band a friend recommended, but i somehow wound up at that godforsaken hell hole where all the worst parts of facebook go to the same daycare as Rosemary's Baby. Reddit, i'm talking about reddit. It's awful on purpose, but not even in a way i can ironically respect. It's 4-chan without goals in life.

If you're new to Bottle's Blasphemy hour, then you need to know that the political compass is actually a Klein Bottle and you have no way of knowing which direction you are facing or going or came from. Supposedly The Interrupters were big supporters of Ron Paul and somehow got mixed up in Alex Jones' recurring brain hemorrhages and they are industry plants like Pussy Riot and Tramp Stamps, and really you're missing the original 2 points A) you have to actually already be musicians, and William Riker) the thing they want you to do has to actually be salable.

Ska is not salable. Now, i'm totally on record as saying that Ska is not my scene. That doesn't mean i can't have a reasoned opinion though. I still listen to it and i have coherent likes and dislikes. So, let's tackle as much actual reddit criticism and my brain could handle in 5 minutes.

- they're a right-wing band.

No, not with Tim Armstrong being the final say on whether Hellcat publishes their album or not.

- they're crappy libertarian apologists.

Again, i'm down in desert land with Chomsky and actual person Marx, ghandi would think i'm a little much, we're all still technically "libertarian."

- their lyrics suck.

All lyrics suck, even the ones i think are good. Words have 9,000+ meanings because we're terrible at using them. Case in point, reddit comments.

- The Interruptors would be Joe Strummer's favorite band if he were alive.

That's a bold assumption.

- YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE A SIDE!!!

No you don't. Choosing a side is half the problem.  It's a false dichotomy.

Yeah, Strummer was a Socialist. He said "i come from the working-class world. Socialism appears more humanitarian to me than the world i see with my own eyes every day. Obviously the system works great for you, you make that very clear as you're kicking me in the teeth."

The lesson here is that things mean what they mean FOR YOU.

I listened to their whole Live In Tokyo album, and they're great. The songs are catchy, it's not overly ideological in either direction, this is lovely "you're a person, let's work together" music.

Did you know there was insanely severe backlash when Kendrick Lamar won a Pulitzer Prize? Why? What possible reason could there be other than that he is a Black Rapper instead of a White "Classical Composer." You're gonna stand there and tell me the average Reddit troll puts any value in the recognition of outstanding publications? I may be guilty of self aggrandizement, but i'm also a student of the Absurd, and i'll argue reality with anyone anytime. They're really just telling you to think for yourself and question authority. That's all i've ever told anyone to do, but 'Merica thinks i'm some crazy guy trying to steal their hard earned gas station beef jerky. $9 for 37 cents worth of salty dehydrated cow's ass? Are you serious?
