Cigarettes for Breakfast - All of 'em

B: ugh, i just had the worst dream.

C: the one where you're falling off a cliff?

B: no, i like that one, it's exhilarating.

S: the one where you're in a shopping cart on a rollercoaster?

B: no, i think that might have been a dream someone else told me about, not actually mine.

WHITE ROOM, BLACK CURTAINS?

B: nah, that one's more annoying than bad. I dreamed it was Monday and tough actin' Skipactin and i were totally lost trying to steer this ship in some direction that gets us somewhere. Like 3 minutes after he passed out some nice pirate minions gave us a lift and brought us back.

C: what's so horrible about that?

B: nothing. Literally nothing. Worst dream ever. Then i woke up and it really was Monday, and those are the worst. They taste like Cigarettes for Breakfast. Then out of nowhere Cigarettes for Breakfast appeared in my feed trough and i was like "hell yeah, we're gonna buy their whole digital discography and thoroughly enjoy some gloomy fuzzed out psychedelic shoegaze from Pennsylvania."

First up is their self-titled album from 2020. It's a deluge of brain thumping low end and noise, just noise and reverb and good gracious it's delightful.

Then it's on to their later that year album Aphantasia. I personally have whatever the opposite of aphantasia is. I see cosmic spiderwebs and glitches in the matrix and the cogs of ideas rotating like clockwork, smell of sounds sort of nonsense. Hard to get any meaningful work done, really. Oh my, this is gorgeous. It is a lot like Hum, but with female vocals a mile away in a cavern in the woods. It's very Chelsea Wolfe if you need that comparison. A lot more electronic noises, though.

Then a live show and some other tracks. This is very much my Alternative Rock. It grooves, it floats and shimmers and banishes all coherent thought from your brain like a warm bath with the lights off. Tons of feedback and ill-advised pedal combinations that are more noise than actual tone.

Sertraline? Best specific drug reference since Greta van Fleet. You know it as Zoloft. It's an SSRI like Paxil or Prozac or Celexa like i took. Serotonin is a complicated thingy mostly involved with your GI tract and cell growth, but inhibiting its reuptake is one of many ways to treat depression, or cause worse depression if that wasn't the problem. They all seem to exacerbate dimentia compared to people who never used them, so if you thought i was bad now....

Was i smarter before or after the antidepressants? That's a tough one. I mean, i didn't know i needed glasses until my 20s and my optometrist actually said "people as far sighted as you often don't graduate high-school."

"I am not completely like other people -eople eople-eople..." is sort of how i responded.

Cigarettes for Breakfast is just fantastic. This goes right on the shelf next to Mirror Travel and  Parts and Labor and those Hum records if they ever actually get here.

"What is the meaning of all this existence?" Like he said, to explore and find out together. I can't describe it, you just have to hear it for yourself. I do very much love it, though. You should all definitely check them out. Unless you just hate psychedelic noise rock from an underground cavern near a steel mill where everything smells sad. If that's the case then i'm not gonna be much help, am i?
