Gunpowder Gray

B: ok, i'm back.

C: is that a batch of records in your pocket?

B: among other things, but yes of course.

S: how much are we going to suffer?

B: possibly a lot, but who knows? We'll start off tonight super easy. Have you ever wished there was an alternate dimension in which fat sweaty Axl Rose was actually a skinny guy with long curly hair from Atlanta and Guns 'n Roses was slightly more of a Stoner Metal band?

E: i can't say that i have, no.

B: well great news, i have the self-titled debut of Gunpowder Gray and the lead off track is also called that. Really nice cover art on this one, don't you think?

S: oh, well, yes actually. That's pretty cool. How are they going to ruin it?

B: so judgy, jeez. Who said anything about ruining anything? I got 6 brand spanking new albums for 60ish dollars and only 10ish of those dollars were mine, thanks to my sister-in-law of not in any way doom. Discogs tells me crazy people have paid upwards of more than they actually cost for several of them. We'll get back to that, for now we're just gonna listen to it...

... well?

E: that was good, right? I feel like that was actually good.

S: that was great, actually. It is like G'n'R meets The Sword.

B: i know, the best part is the lyrics get better as the album progresses. The first few songs are awkward, but the playing is pretty phenomenal. It's honest to goodness trashy rock and roll that actually sounds good, no wonder nobody cares. Well, i care. This is great. Sure, if you're demanding the vocals be better than prime time Axl you might find it a tad annoying, but once you agree to let it go i guarantee this will be totally enjoyable.

E: i mean, truth be told, i do want to hear it again.

B: see? And you guys thought i was gonna torture you with aleatoric noiseprovisation right off the bat. I very much will torture you with it, but i'll also even it out with more palatable things for the unpalated. I may be a condescending know it all, but i'm not a complete monster. Sure, i'm probably going to act like a complete monster at some point, but that's not the same as being one. Give Gunpowder Gray's self-titled EP a try, there's every possibility you just might like it. They aren't really as sleazy as the hype sticker wants you to believe.
