Ice Nine Kills - The Silver Scream II: Welcome to Horrorwood

Pssss mss shf ashim sho pff...

Alright, i'm listening to the whispering, and whoever's out there creeping in the dark needs to speak louder. I'm 12,000 years old on the inside, i scattered my imaginary friends farther across the universe than the freakin' pieces of the triforce, and i just can't even with the sky schmutzing like it is today.

Oh, it's you guys. Named after a Satriani piece that's named after the MacGuffin from a Vonnegut novel. Can you guys even read? Nevermind, not important. I guess we're gonna listen to Ice Nine Kills' The Silver Scream II: Welcome to Horrorwood, huh? Ok fine, well first we have to get past the intro that's a mash up of The Blair Witch Project and poking fun of the lead singer from Every Time I Die hiring an actual hitman to kill his girlwifefriendlady. Oh, then the actual prelude where you sing the concept. Sure, go ahead.

I know you genre hop a lot, but can't we just call you Metalcore and be done with it? I mean you do the whisper before the chorus drop often enough, that kind of trumps the random moments of ska, jungle, polka, opera chorus, etc. Iwrestledabearonce was doing all this insanity back before you even became a band. Yeah, i'm not wrong, Ice Nine Kills is just the Metalcore version of Panic! At the Disco. Nothing to apologize for if you own it, i suppose.

Not gonna lie, i quite like it. It's catchy, completely spastic, and the humor is exactly as terrible as i want it to be. A parody of Chucky using the Toys'R'Us melody, and then they self-deprecate all over the actual concept. Then Psycho and Pet Cemetery, then that Rainy Day ode to Resident Evil. Ugh, not looking forward to all those guest appearance tracks, but i'm seriously enjoying the long range video story like The Killers did with their Christmas singles. Madam Coincidence is really out of practice.

Yeah, i can't hate on this at all, it's fun. I'm not at all joking that Ice Nine Kills is a Metalcore Panic! At the Disco, but it's so over the top i guess i've got no argue with inviting Papa Roach to the American Psycho parody and hacking him to a pulp with an axe.

Hello, Corspegrinder.

What? No video conclusion in the last 5 tracks? Just 5 songs of your promo graphics and lyrics? That's crap. Are you gonna do another official video to finish it? You can't just leave it hanging like that.

So, to recap, great concept, appropriately campy and ridiculous, you didn't just list the cast and crew like Glen Danzig on a bad day, and you'd have to live under at least 3 different layers of rocks to not immediately understand which horror movies are being referenced.

Obviously i don't give stars, but this is a fantastic album for what it's intended to be. I'm not gonna rush out and buy a copy, but you guys can scamper down my hallway anytime.
