Penfriend - Exotic Monsters
The only reviews they care about are from fans of music, and i'd like to think i qualify. Granted we're working from the nanosecond of scrolling past their video in my facebook feed, but Ned's Atomic Dustbin is in some way associated with whatever insanity my brain registered, so i'm gonna say Penfriend is some kind of English band from England. Bold assumption, i know, but i am no stranger to Exotic Monsters. I am a bit of a stranger to spendy money for the next 3 days so we'll unfortunately have to youtubumalate this particular adventure.
I'm finding what appears to be many EPs and a full album all updated in the last week, and a completely different album from way back in 2011 by who i'm certain is the same person named Laura Kidd called Automatic where i think she's torturing a Bratz doll (or whatever kind of Barbie knock off dolls England has). Lets ADD that one first.
Upon closer inspection that's all 7+ minute remixes of the song Automatic with a 2 minute All The Girls at the end, so maybe just a taste of the unremixed version...
... i don't care what you think you fill my brain with static...
Aneurysm says please don't make me listen to 7 more versions of that, so on to the real show. As tempting as it is to delve into the smaller playlists, i am Bottle, and i must stick to the paying facebook to tell me about it full album called Exotic Monsters. Don't take my snark serious, Penfriend, i'm just pointing out that if it reached the cornfields of Iowa where the music fan that i am hides in my basement from the crazy Americans you see on telly, then your your money isn't completely wasted ;)
It's a fantastic opening, that jamming bass synth and the word solipsistic. Oh my goodness, Seventeen is an amazing track 2 follow up, and looking through the track list i am excited. I absolutely love strong feminist sarcasm. I can't conceive of how a track 3 called Hell Together could mess that up at all, and it's such a perfect cool down.
You know what? Screw it. I don't need lunch Wednesday, i literally went to Merchbar and we'll see if 8 to 12 weeks from now it arrives on my front porch.
As for whatever friends i have left following my insane ramblings, check out Penfriend for some of the most glorious Alt-tronica i've heard since Metric was close to popular.
