What's New In Bottleville?
I actually did it. I have a real online shop called Bottle's Music. I sell records from my basement! I'm a year in on my secret mental 5-year plan, and things are going as well as can be expected.
I'll be honest, it is insanely hard to connect with anyone interested in buying records online from a random guy in Iowa. Granted, I have no physical location, an advertising budget of zero dollars, and I'm not exactly famous for anything else (or even this), but it'll get there. Hell, I started this blog in 2019 and it literally received its first ever comment yesterday. The couple sales I've made in the last 6 months are a noticeable improvement by comparison.
So what's next? Well, connecting with more people online and in real life without spending an arm and a leg and a lot of money I don't have is the main thing. Find a few more people willing to have a conversation, check out what I have in stock, contact or mention me. It's tough to know what's a bot or person, who's a real human, who's a troll, and who's just drop shipping somebody else's inventory for a few pennies. It certainly doesn't help that discogs has upped their commission and facebook totally buries anything you aren't paying to publish, but I don't want to get all complainy here.
If you have some spare time and change, check out https://bottlesmusic.com. I personally process every order by hand, ship UPS Ground for a flat fee of $8 (free shipping on orders over $35), and try to keep my prices as reasonable as possible (which is tough when big distributors won't sell to you, and the major labels are jacking their prices through the roof to begin with). Want something specific I don't have? Want to see if I'm willing to discount a large order? Give me a shout and I'll see what I can do. I'm the boss around here, so unless you're just being completely unreasonable we can totally work something out.
I'll be reviewing more new and classic albums in the near future, my brain just needed an extended vacation the last few months. Anywho, thanks for checking in on me.
Cheers.
